...And so
the many months
that have slowly
paraded by
have finally
brought us back
to the edge
of Winter's wrath -
gone the days
of hot and bright
gone the days
of summer's delight
now blustery
cold North winds
whip up dark
gray sunless skies
shorter days
bring longer nights
our moods our
attitudes steeled
awaiting Nature's
pranks on us.
The first strong
howling blizzard
the landscape
with white mantle
of deep crisp
fresh snow will cover
frustrating,
delaying, halting our
scheduled
normal daily routines,
yet despite
all the disruptions
there may be
many joys to discover,
Winter sports
and Winter breaks
customs followed
on religious days
families, friends,
friendships all
their warmth
share and gifts exchange
spending precious
time together
perhaps in front
of the fireplace -
bonding, renewal
of spirit, love, hope
all ingredients
for Winter's fare even
including
the prospect of a New year as
the pages from Winter to Summer turn.
