WHITE HARBINGER

Leaves turned, tumbled
chilly winds more biting
on mountain high above
Fall's first snow has fallen
grayer days shorter now
long nights cold bestow
intrude white harbinger.

Our gait a bit quicker
cold breaths shorter
our alertness gains
our viruses pain
clearer thoughts, minds
less mired by the plain,
progress made in stride
joys of holidays abide in
winter's mantle of white.
