TRIUMPH

Adversity overcome
elation with reservation
unbridled inner joy
achievement boosting self confidence
encouraging progress without hesitation
confidence of victory
satisfaction in resolving
that which needed to be resolved.

 

Are we then the better for it
is Nature more beautiful
does the sun shine brighter
our outlook more positive
yes, a smile on our content faces
emotionally strengthened
prepared for any eventuality
gone, our smugness our overconfidence
perhaps it is so
yet human nature oft the reverse will do
how quickly dost one forget what was learned
not too terribly long ago
only to once more plunge into the abyss
our triumph too short lived to long celebrate.
