THE TRIP
Two weeks, three thousand
miles
into the Southwestern States left
us with picture postcard memories
of sites visited, parks, monuments
canyons, rivers, lakes, forests and
snow-capped mountain peaks.
From Bryce Canyon to
Zion National
Park. to the Grand Canyon, on to the
Petrified Forest, the Painted Desert,
on
to the world's longest aerial tramway
at
Sandia Peak then to Meteor Crater the
best preserved meteorite impact site,
on to Mesa Verde of cliff dwellers fame,
finishing with Canyonland and Arches
National Parks to round out our tour.
Historic cities such
as Gallop, Cameron,
Cortez, Moab, Flagstaff, Albuquerque,
Santa Fe left my travel companion in
a
mostly happy shopping mood as we also
traversed the Navajo Indian Nation and
stopped to look, see, and shop, albeit
my
somewhat colorful driving was mostly
not
graciously appreciated as she oft alluded.
All was nice and all
went well, even the
weather cooperated, but best of all was
time spent together, getting to know
each other in close proximity after years
of friendship from far-off Australia.
