THE PLAY

The fourth June Saturday night
our town's local dinner theater
featured a well known older but
long running Broadway musical
where hopeful youthful dancers
tryout for a part in a chorus line.

Lively dance routines did indeed
the choreographer create which
altogether with like musical beat
fully rocked the stage for all to see
yet, that was not all that was to be
for ostensibly the true lives of each
was carefully crafted to be bared.

So much for the show, but it then
occurred or dawned on me just how
actually the participants must feel
how much struggle, sweat, drive,
hopes, dreams were made to survive
the high aspirations, the goals they
urgently set for themselves to achieve
to reach those nigh impossible highs.
