THEATRE OF LIFE

Born of simple rituals
songs, dances honoring deities
drama evolved when an actor
interacted with the group
more actors later on created
tragedies, comedies, satire
reflective of early life,
politics, manners, even
the love life of the gods.

The mirror reflection of
the tragedies, the absurdities of life
created from times ancient
by playwrights of renown
some with humor, some with frown
a virtual kaleidoscope
of the vagaries of humanity
including our serious drama
in which the main character
is overcome by personal failure
or by destiny.

Yet, we too are acting out our life
daily we take to the stage
an image to uphold
an impression to make
we strut, we huff we puff
try to make our point
dominate, influence, prevail
yes, often to no avail
for many are fooled
by their own act
believing that, to be reality
when in fact it is not.
