The Homecoming
Homecomings, a frequent event
mostly relating to sports, both
amateur and professional held,
locally, state-wide and nationally -
though significant homecomings
also set, as victors return from battle
parading to tumultuous crowds with
cheers, banners, confetti, hoopla down
famous historic streets and boulevards.
Yet the homecoming to be described
is one, less common but more unique,
perhaps more profound, longer lasting
for it involves personalities, emotions,
courage, hopes and dreams, an escape
from a shattered past to a renewed start.
It is the homecoming, post-years
of absence
of a concerned mother wishing to do the best
for her children and herself by finding a haven
more conducive, constructive, reliable, sincere
than the dysfunctional environment experienced.
Readjustments, interactions,
harmonious living
all will take time, effort, cooperation of everyone
for an extended period of time, but even at present
there are unmistakable signs of a willingness to
overcome obstacles, to smooth the way, to confer,
discuss, plan in unison for the good of the whole,
in short, to start life over with a new homecoming.
