Surprises

Surprises come in all sizes
Difficult to predict surprises
They spring upon you unaware
All of a sudden they are there.

Surprises reach across the spectrum
From well managed family birthdays
To unanticipated unexpected births
Perhaps a winning lottery ticket first.

Yet there are more serious surprises
Affecting plans, livelihoods, enterprises
Health and wealth, some good, some bad
Nations, societies not immune, very sad.

How then is your personal mental state
Are you ready to respond, face your new fate
Disappointment or cheers, laughter or tears
Life or death, best bet be prepared, have no fears.
