SENIOR DANCE

They came as couples
some came with friends
some were loners
both women and men
yet all were happy
dressed appropriately
lots of perms in white hair
variously groomed to be fair
most smiled in anticipation
their friendly voices waiting
for the occasion.

The four member band
two women, two men
two pianos, guitar, accordion
started up the dance,
men bowing to the ladies
sitting alongside
inviting them as partners
to join them in dance
soon the floor was awash
with a rhythmic whirl
as the Senior Center,
from fifty to ninety, was
swinging indeed, to the
beat of the band and
the steps of their feet.
