What can one really do
when they call to say
they sorely need you
 else they cannot comply
to a wedding invitation
from six thousand miles.

Family convention dictates
that older sister must attend
her younger brother to be wed
he has worked hard waited long
at last his dream he has found
a ceremony appropriately set.

We have but little time so hurry
make your plans to come in time
children will be happy to see you
come by train do not drive nor fly
it is only two hundred fifty miles
soon we need to say good-bye.

Well a respite for me
put everything on hold
cancel any plans made
relish a changing mandate
to be  Nanny and chauffeur
learn to be young again.
