PARDON MADAME
I have read a small book today
with words of beauty and power
that directs me to change my ways,
for now I understand quite clearly
how my brash, uncouth behavior,
no matter how well intended, to
your frail, but beautiful heart, was
but an affront to sad early memories.
Thrilled was I that you would consider
my love for you, for my world turned on you,
with kindness and gracious understanding did you accept,
being totally ignorant of the exquisiteness of your heart
like a bull in a china shop, I forged ahead, no etiquette,
causing you untold grief, pain, just opposite of my intent
chancing, that you my Love, perhaps may close your heart
rejecting any understanding we have made from the start.
That sort of emotional shock would be just and appropriate
were it not for the single compelling fact that I hold you
in the highest esteem, as the brightest shining star in the universe,
my love for you knows no bounds, my heart pleads for your love,
no words sufficient for forgiveness to ask
yet, now my Love, your compassion express
accept as you have, a place for my heart
to love, keep, cherish and nourish, until I part.
