OVERLOOKED
We seem to have
preponderance
to say things and
make promises
to people we meet,
live, work with
that later we may forget
or renege.
Some are minor in
nature like birthdays,
anniversaries, graduations, special
days
while others of greater
significance may
address financial and material
matters.
Reactions of the
recipients of these vary
from a small child who
expects and waits
to the adult who plans
on and anticipates
while others may say,
“That’ll be the day.”
Most damaging though,
never easily forgotten
are promises made that
involve commitments
to our emotions, be
they love, bonding, marriage
their abrogation then
result in permanent slippage.
Take care then to
avoid such situations
think before you commit,
make promises
certain they are sincere,
not of convenience
recall the adage, ‘You’ll
always hurt the one you love.’
