OKTOBERFEST

Chicken Dance and
oompah bands
strudel, bratwurst
merriment and thirst,
fittingly, beer selected first,
friendly the crowd
happy, children are loud,
German imports quite a lot,
a cute Momma Bear
just right for a tot,
camaraderie for our community
a pleasant occasion of ethnicity.

Diligent, willing the
members of the German Club
devoting time, work and love,
together with younger
volunteers of three High Schools
teaching German classes
assuring success for visiting masses.
Who then started all this mess,
is responsible for initiating Oktoberfest -
why none other than Ludwig the first,
King of Bavaria, when taking his bride
Maria Teresa of Saxony, celebrated
the occasion by proclaiming,
a state fair in Munich,
dedicated to the harvests of Fall and
the Region's most famous product, beer for all.
