OCEANS AND SEAS
Air and water needed
To sustain life, largely
Provided by Nature’s
Physics and chemistry,
Making it possible for
Life as known to survive.
Varied indeed
Are Oceans and Seas
In depth, color, content,
Currents and character,
Somewhat akin to you and me
Even in its mood and temperament,
For we ascribe to it many adjectives,
Such as the romantic sea, the calm sea,
The beautiful sea, the undulating and the angry sea.
Yet the oceans and seas
Are mostly generous to us
Providing a large variety
Of ocean life and species
That we harness for our food,
Minerals of various kinds that
are being explored and mined,
Fossil fuels such as oil and gas,
Not too mention as
Highways for our commerce and
Pleasure for sailing and fishing craft.
We should protect
Our oceans and seas
Be kind and caring,
Balancing our benefits
Instead of carelessly damaging,
Plundering, exterminating and polluting,
A corrective beginning has been made
Cooperative, world wide,
Let us hope it is not too late.
For indeed Nature itself
Is fighting an ongoing battle
Between the forces of Land and Sea
Undersea earthquakes, volcanoes and tectonic plates
Some actions raising mountains
While others are swallowing tons of sea,
The outcome over eons, uncertain to forsee.
