Random thoughts
at a quiet hour
seas of blue lapping at islands
shore,
a Bay of beauty, white sandy
beaches
barefoot, hand in hand walking
the surf,
almond eyes reflecting the stars
of night
smiling lips, teeth of pearl,
long raven hair,
warm thoughts of yesterday,
wane are no more.
Thoughts persist
of another time another place,
where once again white skin
was mostly rarity,
of temples high, dual roles
as fortress played,
once more a sea of almond eyes,
long raven hair -
my presence there, submerged
except for one other
who at my side, was guide, translator,
companion
subsequently becoming my legal
significant other.
Now thoughts
to rings of mountains turn,
where rivers a high desert plateau
traverse
and cactus, sagebrush, tumbleweed
thrive,
here, a long history of Spanish
influence -
did I previously mention almond
eyes, long raven hair,
it seems as though history has
repeated itself,
is it not odd how random thoughts
a full circle make.
