LOST LOVE

Gray skies nothing to see
just my loneliness
for you and me
the warmth of your love
now forever stilled
dissipated like morning mist
leaving emptiness inside
where once not long ago
joy, happiness in unison reigned
gone, the voice I loved to hear
gone, the affection that was so dear
no longer the touch of your hand in mine
no longer your intimate embrace
the smile in your eyes
the warmth of your kiss
why must we be apart like this
valid reasons do exist
we were trapped as in a maze
no way out except to separate
so now it has come to that.

Will we ever recuperate
do hearts once afire their embers retain
does true love vanish like warm rain
is there no feeling left to cushion the pain
can love lost ever be regained
indeed hope does eternal spring
only the passage of time will tell
if love once lost can be found again
or a lonesome heart find love once more.
