JOYS OF SPRING
Closer
the rays that warm our ways
The light of our star extending
the day
Enabling nature its annual rite
to undertake
Rejuvenation, new growth, an
awakening landscape.
This
age old process too
Affecting creatures large and
small
Who share this planet's space
Encouraging the formation of
new life
Attempting to insure thus
The continuation of all species
Known to us.
Us, are
We, the human life forms
Builders of civilizations, destroyers
of same;
Innovators, inventors, discoverers
Erratic, self destructive
Sometimes good, often bad
Endowed with measure of growing
intelligence
Beginning to awaken, to reach
out
Beyond our bounds of gravity.
Each
human life an amazing complex organism
Far more so than we have
Up to now been able to understand
A heart we have that pumps
A brain we have that sorts and
interprets
Some say we also have a heart
that feels
Some say we also have a brain,
a mind, a conscience
Some even say we have a soul
whatever one makes that out to be.
Perhaps
most of us do not quite understand ourselves
Oft we are at odds with Nature's
way
Instead of living in peaceful
harmony
Yet most of us do comprehend
The feeling of joy,
The spirit of renewal,
The inner awakening
That arrive with our seasonal
rites of Spring.
