JOURNEY

The ship of life on uncharted water flows
sailing smoothly in waters calm
heaving, rolling, pitching in heavy seas
seeking shelter and haven in times of storms

constant is the danger of shifting winds
of low ebb tides, of unmarked shoal and reefs
yet the biggest danger comes from us, within
for this is our ship of life made up of our
emotions, our moods, our feelings
our psyche, our ego, our own persona
often we are lost, we cannot find our way
no matter how we steer our ship
our objectives we cannot reach
for we see not what we think we see
but follow only shadows, mirages
that allow us to trick ourselves
run aground, shipwreck on a reef
for until we get our own house in order
we have no business taking
our ship of life to sea.
