INCOGNITO

A very pleasant afternoon was spent with you
every word you uttered attentively listened to
your words gently flowed in tones melodious
as you considered our future friendship
I watched you very thoughtfully
as you added body language to your intonation
what a fascinating friend I thought
yet despite all the attention given you
I was unable to fathom your real thoughts
your lenses so dark , a visor for your eyes
a shield which allowed only their shadow
thus obfuscating their true dimension
was this merely an oversight on your part
or was this by design to hide that which
would truly let me see deep into your soul
to gauge your true aims and desires
still all was not lost since we will meet again
this time perhaps without any impediments
in an eye to an eye encounter.
