HIDDEN
As mist enshrouded mountain
As dense fog visibility curtails
As the tip of the iceberg we see
So too you cannot see the real me.
You’ll never know
What the real me would show
For it is just as yours might be
Hidden from view deep inside of me.
We may smile
Be pleasant for awhile,
Look honest and sincere
Relaxed, full of good cheer.
Give nodding credence
To what is being told,
Encourage the story to unfold
Sympathize, empathize, be bold.
Yet deep inside us
We follow a different mold
Featuring our own interests
Determined to reach our own goals.
Some of this imbalance
May bubble to the surface
Giving pause, raising doubts
Causing rifts or an outright out.
Can this false normality be corrected
Can one learn to be frank and to the point
Honest with their real motives
Their dreams, their goals
It is an almost impossible task
For often in our subconscious
The real truth is actually hidden from us.
