Losers
We’re the lowliest of creatures,
The left-over, the misfits
See us sitting in the corners
Slouching closest to the ground
No one can accept us
Not even ourselves
Because we’re the ones
That put ourselves down
When we look at the sky
We see the same blue
We walk the same ground
In our worn out shoes
But something still serves
As a barrier to
Divide our identical identities
Separate into two
It’s the people we dread
With our self-consciousness
And our lack of esteem, or discipline
Some of us never listened
To the helping words given
Because we couldn’t strive
Without independence
The same grass grows
Around our homes
And life still surrounds
Our little, limp souls
As these years pass on,
Only the strong are left
Not us, we die out,
It’s the loser custom
Through halls we tread,
Unity unfound
We’re the singletons here
In this differing town
But what’s same is what’s wrong
In our own wrong world
So we take our steps
And dance to a different tune
Oh, you’ll know me when
You see the little figure
I’m the shaded one, crippled
Motionless in the corner
I lay against the trashcan
Because there’s no better friend
For a loser in an
unforgiving world
