HEARTFELT KISSES
A leisurely New
Year’s dinner
The restaurant not a top winner
With food palatable, nicely served
People, jovial, talkative we observed.
As for us, we
too chatted a lot
Talked about ourselves, this and that
Somehow it seemed we wore similar hats,
Our experiences ran on parallel tracks.
We assured ourselves
there was nothing to it,
No involvement of any kind to commit,
With kind words and humor tried not to admit -
Yet all we did was fool ourselves as hypocrites.
We left for a
little ice cream dessert
It was late, the Dairy Queen almost deserted,
We each enjoyed a small hot fudge sundae,
Sat there a long while, until closing time.
This time we
spoke in earnest, opening our minds,
Honest, sincere words that brought us ever closer
We began to understand, learn from each other,
It would not do to say Goodbye but rather adios.
As we stood outside
in the bitter cold
A last embrace for us to hold
Our eyes intent, our hearts upbeat
Suddenly a tender kiss, followed by another,
Then many more, each hotter than before,
Kisses straight from our hearts
Memorable kisses, we had to tear ourselves apart.
