Gentle Expectation

To me so told by someone known
of a person from a distant land
of some distinction
both in her career and character
with charming personal traits
a graduate in a scientific field
from that country's top university
wise, outgoing, experienced
a world class lady
that might just possibly
wish to meet me
upon her imminent return.

Somewhat anticipatory
curious with slowly building momentum
my enthusiasm somewhat tempered
at the challenge facing me
confidence with caution mixed
excitement, eagerness with logic restrained
concerned at being outclassed at the start
yet fully open to all possibilities
I will take up the gauntlet
if given a chance and prove
that, yes indeed, I can win her heart.
