FUN ONCE MORE
Knock, knock you at home?
Goodness it’s that youngster again –
Well come on in, how’ve you been,
What’s on your mind this time?
Well my friend and I
Sort of got into a fight –
He said I’d be sorry I was mean to him,
It’ll be on my mind and unless I make up
My conscience will keep bothering me;
I want to know, what’s a conscience anyway?
Oh, so that’s it, is it –
It may take a bit to explain, but it is a good question:
Look at it this way – it’s like your own internal guide
To help you along in making up your mind,
Sort of a built in compass to let you know
Right from wrong, good from bad,
Should you do this or should you do that,
What would be outcome of your action?
If you wanted to do something wrong
like steal, cheat, lie
Your conscience might warn you that it isn’t right –
If you’re mean, act like a bully, even fight
Your conscience might let you know that’s on the wrong side,
If however, you’re nice, friendly, smile, do good, help out
Your conscience will be happy and glad and thank you for that,
Most important though, you’ll feel good, have your peace of mind –
So find your friend, tell him how sorry you are,
That he was right and mention your conscience is on his side.
Gee, old timer, thanks, I think I can
figure it out now,
Well, bye, got to find my friend,
OK now, I think this will last me for awhile, bye.
