FANTASY

Yes, so very long ago
it may have been somewhat so,
a long awaited evening date
an open carriage ride
along twisting cobblestone streets
the coachman stopping at number ten,
down steps a handsome young man
neatly fit into his tux
with corsage in hand
to meet his lovely date
eagerly awaiting his call.

Happily time is spent
first at the concert ball,
then on to the opera
a moonlit walk along the Danube
then off to a hidden café
where small talk of love
longing eyes, smiling lips, holden hands
accompanied by Strauss waltzes
on a gramophone.

The night wears on
love now in full bloom
it is time to take his love home,
Coachman, a slow ride please
they sit close under the night sky
the gently rocking rhythm of the coach
enthralls their senses even more,
finally the coach stops
she is escorted to her home
a final farewell, a kissing embrace,
a fond goodbye as she whisks through the door,
both now know
that this night of nights they will never forget
yes, so it went so many years ago.
