EXPECTATIONS

Strong golden rays of sun
reflecting playfully
on countless droplets of water
which multi prisms form
of such hues and colors
inexorably interpreted
by all humankind as
a most colorful rainbow
gently arching against
the now clearing sky,
an expectation that
invariably has been fulfilled.

We expect the young to grow,
flowers to bloom,
a nod, a pat, an acknowledgment
for good deeds or work well done;
in temperate climes,
Summer to follow Spring
as Winter follows Fall;
Most know what to expect
since we have learned it all.

Yet problems do occur,
the expectation ride becomes rough
when we address our emotions
including the ones we love.
I love you and
expect your love in return
sometimes it works that way,
often there is a turn.

Why is it that we humans
find it most difficult to comply
with established laws of nature
that within each of us resides;
just as the golden rays of the sun
at given appropriate times
our expectation fulfills and
a most colorful rainbow provides.
