Epitaph
No jeweled gift my love received
No golden necklace on her heaved
Nor a diamond blue same eyes of hue
To grace a delicate finger on her hand
Instead bouquets tied with bright bands
Lovely roses, irises, dahlias, carnations
Boxes of chocolates for her adoration
Betwixt a special poem for her admiration
Words of intimacy solely for her affectation
Promising my heart, showing trust, affirmation
Great my respect for her uniqueness, appreciation
Rewards of kisses through spontaneous emotions
Yet despite all this she slowly drifted apart
Assuredly there were reasons concerning the heart
Scales of life, duty and love tipped my sweetheart
Slowly we became estranged to be true
lovers in memory.
