DUSK TO DAWN
A golden crescent moon, placed high in the sky,
was splaying luminescent rays of light
through the crisp autumn air.
It reflected the soft shadowy form of the portrait
gracing the east wall by the bedroom.
The dancing leaves outside the window enhanced
the shadows on the wall, causing an odd
sensation of movement of the portrait
on the wall.
A soft whisper reached my ears, as though it
came from the beautiful Native American lady in the portrait.
She looked like a princess,
her long, soft, lustrous, silky, deep black hair
parted in the midst of her head,
resulting in a soft, warmth throughout her appearance.
She smiled serenely out of her portrait’s frame.
Her eyes glinted mysteriously, as her soft,
dark pink lips beckoned invitingly…
Suddenly, a deep orange filled the sky as
yellow vines of light sprouted from the horizon:
The stars gradually twinkled out of sight.
The owl stopped its “hooing” and went to sleep.
The moon bade its farewell
and sank into the series of lush mountains for
dawn blossomed out through the sky,
stretching to every corner.
The day flourished with the scent of flowers and freshly cut grass.
Night was gone. Day was here.
The shadows of the room, now given way
to the brightness of the rising sun,
ended the mysterious, yet delightful,
series of unexplainable events of the night just passed.
The princess in the portrait
serene, beautiful as ever,
resumed her permanent stance.
