DISCERNING COMPANIONSHIP

Charm, grace, appearance
 synchronized in abundance
an exquisite body language
in tandem with dainty fingers
winning lips utterly inviting
shining eyes clear, absorbing
hair style fitting appropriate
her petite presence masterful.

Infrequent scarce meetings
with pleasantries exchanged
amid strange strict caveats
written words more profuse
though the caveats remained,
our budding friendship grew
its mystery ever more askew
an enigma obscured from view.

Some basics craftily avoided
usually with a beguiling smile
seeming cloudy look in her eye
subsequent backtracking with
misunderstanding as excuse,
was all this a game, or a ruse,
it was obvious there was more
than met the eye, my new friend
quite abruptly declared an end
to our discerning companionship.
