Dichotomy

Many a dichotomy exists
such as between East and West,
religions often succumb to the test
as do political parties and policies,
even in astronomy it can be applied
as in many other fields of endeavor,
yet the dichotomy I want to address
is one of great puzzlement to me,
for it involves none of the above
but its results are as ageless as ever.

Few in number are they
who have not experienced the problem
be they parents, relatives or many others,
when in dealing with the teen generation,
it invariably appears that there is a
vast gap in understanding, communication,
their thought processes, their morals the
attainment of their aims and objectives
differing greatly from the expected,
often confusing and perplexing us
as we desperately try to understand
where they are coming from and where
they are going, mostly without avail,
yes, our thirty year generation gap
is quite real, especially when it
adds up to two generations.
