YESTERDAY

When I was young

I listened to the Beatles,

Dylan and the Rolling Stones,

Bowie and Lou Reed.

That was 40 years ago

And they still sing their

songs today

When I was young

I watched Dad's Army,

Dr Who and I Love Lucy

And the Ascent of Man.

That was 40 years ago

And they sometimes watch those shows today

When I was young

I read of Poirot's exploits

Foundation and I, Robot

Wyndham, Blish and Vonnegut.

That was 40 years ago

And some still read those books today

When I was young

I looked at Pop Art

Warhol and Wasselman

Light shows and holographs

That was 40 years ago

And they still watch them all today

When I was young

I wore hipster flares

Long skirts and high boots

Macrame bags and headbands.

That was 40 years ago

And the copies aren't the same today.

When I was young

I thought of love and peace

Flowers and humanity united

And shares for one and all

That was 40 years ago

They don't think that way today------

Do they?
