Night Alarm

It's a quiet night
Around Midnight,
Hardly any traffic
On the highway.
Small country town
Asleep and still,
Fragrance in the air
Daphne in bloom.
Moon and bright stars
Decorate the night.
Peace and quiet
For children to sleep.

A wail, pathetic and sad
And brought from the city.
Our beauty is cracked
From side to side.
They're rich you see,
They've made their pile.
Wealth to protect
They must be alarmed!

And who loses most
When their alarm
Screams out and breaks
Our quiet country night?
