A LADY
I have a photo of a lady
An elegant lady
In a field with wild flowers and
a tree.
Her skin glows in the sun,
Tanned and golden.
Her clothes are simple,
With a stick for walking.
I have talked with this lady
But have never heard her voice.
I have wept for this lady
But could not tell the colour of
her eyes.
I have laughed with her, too,
But have never seen her smile.
I know she was kind,
Gentle, brave and loving.
The photo is all I have now
The time for talk and tears has
gone.
I imagine her under the wild, wild
flowers
Sheltered by the tree.
Far from tears, pain and grief.
I have lost a friend,
The world has lost a lady.
