CUPID
Soft the evening breeze
with bright starlit canopy
as hand in hand we stroll
happily in love are we
the landscape somewhat surrealistic
in the gentle glow of moonlit night
reminder of recent romantic dinner with candlelight
the air now more heavy with scented perfume of Nature
drawing us ever closer
as we stop to sit on a wrought iron bench
reflecting on how we first met.
True, we were just
friends
until the time of an after dinner
promenade in the local park
when suddenly turning
a strange sensation
we were longingly gazing
into each other's eyes
a knowing smile
we promptly fell in love
were we then the target, unbeknown to us
of mischief caused by the winged child of Venus,
as one of his amorous arrows pierced our hearts -
if so, we have but Cupid to thank
for the happiness we have since found in our love.
