COMMITMENT
A single word
A nod, a smile
A softly said "yes"
A timeless bond,
An acknowledgment
Of two hearts melded
Into permanence.
No steel was used
Nor cement nor glue,
Not anything physical
Known to man.
Yet that very action
Is more binding,
Than the strongest fabric
Hereto devised by us.
Even the most
Solemn commitment
Made in all sincerity,
Has to withstand the
Test of time, temptation
and other human frailties.
Many an internal battle rages
To walk that straight
And narrow line,
Only to waiver
In anger or frustration,
Losing a most significant
Emotional survival fight.
When one errs
Are they forgiven,
Is one mistake allowed.
Will the strongest of
Bonds be broken,
Shattered beyond repair.
Your heart must
Tell you the answer
For you are the only one
Who really knows,
Just how very dedicated
Your initial commitment was.
