CACTUS GARDEN

Sandy soil, a high desert plateau
sunny days, cool nights
make transplanting native cactus
a most pleasant delight,
thick moose leather gloves
ankle high boots
insure minimal damage
from sharp needles and spines,
but after a hard summer's work
and a cold winter's survive
the cacti have bloomed, have multiplied,
the colors of their buds attesting their health
as a self sufficient plant
needing but weeding as they live and spread.
