AN AVALANCHE OF LOVE

To you I send an avalanche of love today
Building slowly, steadily over time
Much as white snow drifting over mountains high
Accumulate ever deeper throughout our winter months
So too has the kindling of our burgeoning love
Begun to take hold as first a small flame
Then, as with fierce mountain storms
Our snow capped peaks to grandeur sweep
Our small flame of love fed with
Words and thoughts of constant love
Has taken hold and now rages in the fire of our hearts.

Yet we must be ever alert
To sharply sudden changes of events
Prepared for danger at an instant's turn,
For as with a clap of thunder
The overweight, snow ladden canopy
Jolts loose large blocks of snow,
To roar down mountains with jet speed
Wreaking death and havoc in its wake,
The icy fingers of distorted truth,
Of deceit and of distrust
Can likewise still snuff out our flame of love.

Let us take care then
to build the kind of love
That will withstand the onslaught of time and men,
Love that with understanding, compassion, caring is graced
To shield us from such unexpected events
So that even if caught in an avalanche's roar
The searing heat of love in our hearts
Will burn away the cold mantle of snow
Allowing us, together, to stand in the sun's rays once again.
