ANTICIPATION

Did you follow your instinct
when you fell in love,
rely upon your innate knowledge
your sensitivity, your sixth sense;
thus harnessing your
subconscious intuitive perception
allowing you the vision, excitement
the foresight, the anticipation
of a permanently bonded love.
Later, oh so much later,
did you also follow your instinct
when you strayed,
made an irrevocable mistake;
what was your anticipation then,
where was your intuition,
your sixth sense,
had it evaporated, gone away
could you not contemplate,
predict, the consequences
of that fatal day.
Were we but able to anticipate
with clairvoyant certainty
the consequences of our ways,
how many countless commitments
to our bonded hearts
would permanently be saved.
Is it possible for you,
is it possible for me,
to use our innate talents
in this anticipatory way,
thus saving the hurt, the agony
of a broken heart for another day.
