ABSTRACT THOUGHTS

Join me
As I visit an alpine meadow
Taking in a grandiose mountain view
On a lazy cloudless sunny afternoon
With gentle winds singing their song
Through a grove of nearby tall stately firs.

A perfect time to close my mind
To everyday problems and trivia of life
My thoughts free to wander aimlessly
Detached from human daily strife
Wrapped in an inexplicable blanket
Known simply as, the vagaries of life.

Thoughts surface, though humanity tries
It cannot escape eons of primeval shackles
Fraught with constant fears and dangers
Threatening small groups of early man
With nature and environment contributing
Challenging their very survival day and night.

Why cannot mankind get along,
Strive to make our planet a pleasant home,
Simply we have not yet learned to outgrow
Parts of our ancient subconscious historic minds,
To harness our vast human energy and ingenuity
For the greater good of all mankind -
Perhaps in a couple hundred thousand years
We might just turn the corner, if we survive,
Succeed in achieving humanities' illusive goal.
