A SHORT LIVED DREAM

How wonderful it would have been

Had not something come between

It happened suddenly, unexpectantly

The window of true love beckoned to us

We poured out our hearts unashamedly

It was all so quick for us, so spontaneous

An undefined dimension opened up for us

We reached for it, held it close, enchanted

By the force of its throes but to no avail

For the precious clicks of time never stood still

Running out for us as we our sweet parting took

Perhaps not really knowing what came over us

We let our dreams of love slip by, abandon us

Only to awaken to reality, having shed our dreams,

As fate looked us square in the eye, we realized

Our impossible situation, we faltered, surrendered

We did the right and proper thing but at what cost

To each, for all time, and to our quenched fires of love.
