THEN WHO MADE GOD

Pondered Heidi our inquisitive five year old

Returning from her religious school one Saturday;

"No one made God"

 I replied smilingly,

"For God alone made everything there is

Or ever will be", said I reassuringly.

Was I right, or was I wrong

Suddenly the question arose.

I started to think of it for quite some time

Only to become more and more uncertain

Of my quick and ready reply, and yet

There should have been no doubt, no waiver

Not a shred of insecurity in my mind.

Random thoughts flashing by the dozen,

Logic and faith fighting it out;

The grain of sand on the beach,

The drop of water in the ocean,

The blade of grass by the tree,

The birth of a child, you and me,

The sky, the sun, the moon and stars,

The Universe and Void therein,

All fitting together so precise and randomly

Is there not a clear pattern for all to plainly see.

We are born and we die only to be born again,

As it is with everything.

Stars are born and stars die only to be born again,

The Universe was born and it too will die,

Only to be born again.

The cycle is endless, there is no time,

Infinity, if there is such a thing

Everlasting, Till the end of time,

Human frailty where logic fails,

Words that are concepts that cannot really be defined.

The more we learn, the less we know,

Although great strides are made virtually every day.

I deduce that there is more than sufficient evidence

For those who are able to "see", that

The Hand of God is everywhere, even deeply within us,

As assuredly and implicitly we know it to be.
